Which is more damaging to your hair, straightening or curling?

Because with a straightener, you have to keep going over your hair to keep it straight. But with a curling iron, you have to hold it there for how ever many seconds. Without using any heat protector, which one would damage your hair more?Which is more damaging to your hair, straightening or curling?
Its the same. Even blowdrying your hair is very damaging. My mom is going to beauty school and the teacher told them that every time you straighten your hair is extremely damaging. He described it this way:

You know how your skin has layers. Well your hair also has layers. The middle of your hair is called the cortex and is surrounded by the 14 layers to protect it. Every time you straighten your hair, you are getting rid of two layers. Once you reach the cortex, you are literally frying your hair.

Pretty scary, don't you think?Which is more damaging to your hair, straightening or curling?
So I have a question?

After you have ';fried off'; the layers on your hare and you are at the cortex when you straighten it...

then if you stop straightening and curling your hair can those layers come back?

curling
a straightener is more damaging
hmm very good question.

i see what you mean.

but yet, straighteners release more heat. have you noticed that sometimes you let go of the straightener and a bunch of steam comes out?
Both damage, but straightening is worse. I just read about it in a magazine, it said ';curling is less damaging than straightening'; and went on to talk about the hairstyle.
a straightner because it is thousand time hotter than any curling iron.no matter what
