How do you make those perfect curls with a curling iron?

ive tried to use on before and it doesnt seem to curl my hair at all, i think i must be using it wrong some how. is it better to straighten your hair first? How do you make those perfect curls with a curling iron?
maybe the curling iron doesn't get hot enough for your type of hair or its just a waver. How do you make those perfect curls with a curling iron?
I would run the curling iron down your hair like a straightener so the hair gets hot, then curl it once you get to the end so the hair is more likely to change shape. Also, make sure the curling iron is as hot as possible. I usually put a drop of water on it and see how fast it sizzles.
I Curl My Hair All The Time... I Curl It Then Imeadeatly Put Hair Spray On It An Mabey Your Not Leaving The Iron In Long Enough... When Im Done I Put A Tiny Bit Of Mouse In It To Keep Its Hold...Good Luck
use a light holding spray before using your curling iron and afterwards spray entire head with the holding spray.
If you are talking about shirley temples yes make sure the hair is straight then go to the end of the hair and twirl it around to your head careful not to burn your scalp and hold if for like 30 seconds I spray spritz on it while it's holding to make if stay firm hope this helps.
Dont straighten first, if u have a little body in ur hair the curl will hold better than if u straighten it. Spray each section before u curl it, use like Redken Hotsets spray or something equivalant, section the hair up and down sections, not straight across. grab the tip of hair with the bottom of the barrel of iron, then holding it vertical roll hair around til u get it to the top of the barrel, then when u take it down, pull the barrel of the iron straight down, after the whole head is rolled just finger thru it lightly, also u need a professional iron, most irons from stores do not get hot enough to do the job, Sallys Beauty Supply sells to the public and they have good deals on their irons, i prefer the HotTools brand.
